Production and Marketing
Department Goal
To promote sustainable agricultural development through enhanced productivity, market access, and value addition across crop, livestock, apiculture, and aquaculture sectors.
Department Executive Functions
Coordinate and supervise agricultural sector activities in alignment with national policies and district development priorities.
Support farmers and producer groups in adopting improved technologies and practices for increased yields and income.
Facilitate access to agricultural inputs, extension services, and market infrastructure.
Promote value chain development and commercialization of priority commodities.
Strengthen partnerships with government agencies, development partners, and private sector actors.
Core Sectors
Crop Production: Promotion of staple and cash crops including cassava, beans, coffee, and rice.
Animal Husbandry: Support for livestock health, breeding, and commercialization.
Apiculture: Development of beekeeping as a viable income-generating activity.
Aquaculture: Expansion of fish farming through training, input support, and market linkages.
Agriculture Cluster Development Project (ACDP)
A Government of Uganda initiative funded by the World Bank and implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). Introduced in Kole District during FY 2019/2020, the project is operational in seven lower local governments:

E-Voucher Program: Digital access to subsidized agricultural inputs for registered farmers.

Infrastructure & Value Chain Development
Value Addition & Market Access: Support for processing, packaging, and commercialization of agricultural products.
Farmer & Value Chain Actor Training: Enhancing skills in production, post-harvest handling, and business management.
ACCE-Level Warehousing & Marketing: Establishment of aggregation centers for bulk storage, quality control, and market coordination.
Farm Access Roads & Choke Point Interventions: Construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to improve mobility and reduce post-harvest losses.
